6 WINTER, C W R In Sundry Places : The Story of the Cornish Estate of Tregeare
Cornwall Forget-Me-Not Books 1999 1870374355 / 9781870374354 First Edition Hard Cover Fine Fine
HB + DW, 208 pages, in Fine + Fine condition. Tregeare is in North Cornwall between Egloskerry and Tresmeer not far from Launceston. The Tregeare Estate, once one of the largest in Cornwall, belonged from the 17th to the 19th century to the Baron family, one member of whom made a fortune in the City of London. In 1790 his money helped Jasper Baron to build the present stunning white Palladian Tregeare House. Early in the 19th century the Tregeare and London Estates passed by marriage to the well known family of Lethbridge, several of whom were personally involved at this time in the founding of Australia. This book tells the story of these two families and the involvement of the Lethbridges of Tregeare. Tregeare House and Estate have now been restored and refurbished and are regarded by many members of the Lethbridge family both in this country and in Australia, almost as a place of pilgrimage.
